Online Sessions
PHIL01: Intro to Philosophy
Studies primary texts from Plato onward (probably up to Kant). Readings will be emailed to you in advance – the online discussions are held roughly once every other week. The discussions will be either in group or individually via either Skype or email correspondence. Readings for each session must be done prior to the discussion (or else the session will be postponed until the readings are done). Philosophers we will be looking at include: Plato, Aristotle, St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, Thomas Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz, John Locke , David Hume, Kant, etc. (texts must be purchased or obtained from the web; I will send you the links if you do not own a copy)
PHIL02: Inductive Logic
Using two texts we will be studying what makes an argument strong and weak, and how to construe a strong argument. We will also be looking at how to find falsity or logical fallacy in any given argument. The texts will be PDFed and sent to you. The text we will be using are: Attacking Faulty Reasoning by T. Edward Damer and Informal Logic by Douglas Walton.
Those who are interested are encouraged to contact me at the email address below. Because this will be an online session, the discussions will be proceeded in each individual’s own pace. Hence, this will somewhat be like an one-to-one tutorial in effect. Preferred schedules and other arrangements can be made by contacting me.
