Lyceum Philosophicum
Course Description
This is a history and philosophy course designed to introduce the key concepts taught in universities over the course of 4 years by taking a variety of classes in philosophy department. What I offer is, however, not only the philosophy for the same of intellectual stimulus, but also the philosophy that enriches your life and the philosophy that you can use in daily life to better communicate with others and find solutions in problems at work and in private life.
By the end of this holistic approach of the philosophy lessons, the student will be able to 1) think critically and identify problems in work place, in life and come up with solutions that are logically coherent and come up with solutions, 2) make well-informed decisions that will not make you regret later, making your life stress-free, and 3) establish your own ideas about life and have faith and become confident about yourself. These are only some of the things my History and Philosophy Course can bring you to fruition. In general, by being exposed to the ideas and the way philosophers thought about serious issues in the past, the critical thinking skills you will acquire will help you in many corners of your life.
It is said that in universities in the U.S., the average total cost of tuition is about $25,000 (=3,600,000 yen) per year as of October 1, 2024.[1] For International students, it will be much higher. In Japan, the average cost of tuition alone for 4-year is 2,450,000 yen (= $20,000) for both National Universities and Public Universities.[2] Furthermore, humanities departments have less budgets to afford teachers that there are less and less quality courses available all over the world. For university students to get a well-paying job, while companies expect a high level of critical thinking skills in students, they are left with no choice but forego taking classes that enrich and cultivate you intellectually and morally, such as Literature, History and Philosophy courses. This in turn influences the ability of the students to think critically and have wider views in life. Accepting plurality of ideas used to be the hallmark of educated people, but students are now deprived of the chance to utilize wisdom of the past and tend to become focused on singular idea. This is why a more cost-efficient online teaching has become popular and the teachers’ quality has also been elevated tremendously in recent years. For example, in my case, you can see my certificates and qualifications on this website and I am in fact qualified to teach at universities in the North America – but once again, COVID and the low budgets in humanities department have made it almost impossible for qualified teachers to get a job at most universities, unless they are extremely lucky or the circumstances are in their favour.
Moreover, in order to get the amount of knowledge offered here, you will have to take many classes for at least one semester each, but here on my course, I can explain general ideas and give you what books to read if you are interested in certain topics. In T.B.A., we will talk about issues that have not been covered or partially covered due to the lack of time in the previous lessons. In this way, I can tailor my classes to your custom needs – for instance, we could discuss what might have been happening in the Eastern philosophy, even though my courses are generally geared towards the Western philosophy.
